Aircraft Count

This is a small program designed by myself to log the maximum amount of aircraft seen on the SBS at any one time.

Unfortunately it is not a "LIVE" count , its works from achieved information gained from BaseStation reporter.

Aircraft Count.exe work's on Windows XP and VISTA and should work on previous OS's.

IMPORTANT UPDATE (7th march 2009)

Some users are receiving a message stating that a file named "COMDLG32.OCX" is missing or similar.

This file is now included in the Aircraft Count. Zip file when downloaded.

If you do get this message when trying to run Aircraft Count.exe simply drag and drop the "COMDLG32.OCX" file in to your "C:\Windows\system32" folder.

*********************************

Download and unzip the Aircraft Count.exe to a location of your choice then...

1)    Open BaseStation reporter and create a full day's Flights Report log for the  date you require..

Ensure you select the same Start and Finish Date's , and that the log runs from Midnight to 23:59:59

and that "Sort Report By" is set to "StartTime"

and click the CSV File to save to a location of your choice , then close BaseStation reporter (this all takes about 1 minute).

You are now ready to use Aircraft Count.exe

2)       Having downloaded and unzipped the Aircraft Count.exe simply double click on the exe to open..

You will notice that the default details are Maximum count recorded = 1 on 01:01:1900 at 00:00:01

To create your first COUNT , click "START" , then navigate to the saved CSV file that you created with BaseStation Reporter and select "OPEN".

The Aircraft Count .exe "START" display will then change to..

This process can take some time , the exact amount of time depends on the amount of aircraft you normally see , the speed of your PC and any other programs you may have running etc.

I have two identical PC's one of which runs BaseStation on a 24/7 basis on which the process can take up to 40 minutes to complete a full 24 hour log, whereas the other PC (not running BaseStation) does it in half that time.

Once the log has completed the Aircraft Count.exe display then changes accordingly...

Here you will see that I done  a log for the 7th February 2009 and saw a maximum of 156 aircraft at 07:48:25

you will also notice the "NEW MAXIMUM AMOUNT SEEN!" display has illuminated , obviously because 156 is higher than the previous 1.

(If the maximum amount seen during this log is lower than the maximum already seen then  this display would not illuminate.)

Click "EXIT" or "COMPLETED - CLICK TO EXIT" buttons and your done , your first log has been completed.

(Note: Clicking either of these two buttons will prompt you to "Back Up your logs" , this will be covered shortly.)

Reopening the Aircraft Count.exe and you will notice that the "Maximum count recorded" is now updated to take in to consideration the log that you have just preformed.

To log another days CSV simply repeat the above steps.

Options , Back Up and Restoring

There are other facilities available using the "OPTIONS" button , one of which has already been mentioned "Back up your logs!

Clicking on the "OPTIONS" button causes the program to slide open , revealing more buttons..

"View Previous Logs"

Clicking on "View Previous Logs" will open a list of all the logs already completed , showing the maximum amount of aircraft seen on each log including the exact time that they were seen.

From the example above you will notice that I have done logs for each day in February , and my highest amount of aircraft was 200 on 23/02/2009 at 07:29:54

"View Details Of Last Log"

Click on "View details of last log" gives you a detailed second by second log of the last log you created ,

showing the amount of aircraft at any one second.

It also shows when the log was created , in this case my log for the 04/03/2009 was finished at 00:53:16 on the 5th.

PLEASE NOTE: EACH TIME YOU COMPLETE A LOG , THIS INFORMATION REPLACES THE LAST LOG,

TO ARCHIVE ANY PARTICULAR LOG YOU WILL NEED TO RENAME IT , DETAILS OF THIS ARE IN THE LAST SECTION OF THIS PAGE.

"Back Up All Log Files"

This is a simply one click button which will back up all the files created by Aircraft Count.exe

(Details of where files are backed up to appear in the last section of this page.)

"Restore Log files From back up"

Again a simply one click action to restore all files , although a "Confirmation" box will appear.

This action will of course Over-Ride any of the existing files already being used by Aircraft Count.exe

(Details of where files are restored from  appear in the last section of this page.)

"Select Start and Finish Times"

Having created a 24 hour CSV from BaseStation , Aircraft Count.exe will create a 24 Hour log by default.

You can however select the hours between which you want your logs to be done.

You will see that in the above example I have select 7 as my start time (7.00 am) and 17 as my finish time (17.00 pm)

You MUST then click the "SET" button , otherwise your times will be ignored and a full 24 hour log produced!.

Now follow the normal procedure of "START" etc to create your log file , but this time Aircraft Count.exe will only take information from the CSV for the hours that you have selected. The above example will see a log created from 07:00:00 to 16:59:59 (Note: one second earlier than the end time selected.

Technical information concerning Aircraft Count.exe

Your system needs to have the file "COMDLG32.OCX" installed to be able to run Aircraft Count.exe.

This file is now included in the download...

Please see top of page for detail.

Aircraft Count.exe creates a folder for storing its files and another folder if the back up facility is used.

"C:\acdata" is the folder created to store the files and

"C:\acdatabackup"  is the folder used to save files to when the "back up log files" facility is used , or to retrieve files from when the "restore log files" facility is used

The files created in these folders are:

ac.dll    which holds the information of the last log produced (Second by Second log for the last date logged)

count record.dll    which holds the list of all previous logs (eg highest total for each log)

maxaircraft.dll    which stored the information regarding the highest amount of aircraft seen

There is also a further file created in the "C:\acdata" folder called "bsrts.dll" when Aircarft Count.exe is in operation, this file holds information on the total log time (24 hour by default or by your own selected Start and Finish time) , this file is automatically deleted when you exit Aircraft Count.exe and does not get backed up nor restored.

Another file which is created during the use of Aircraft Count.exe is produced in the same location as the CSV you select , this file is also temporary and will automatically get deleted when exiting the program. So for example if your CSV is saved to your desktop and named "FlightsReport-20090206.csv" then a temporary file named "FlightsReport-20090206.doc" will be created but then deleted.

**************************************************************************

Should you wish to Un-install Aircraft Count.exe then simply delete the "Aircraft Count.exe" program from the location you originally saved it to and then delete the two folders "C:\acdata" and "C:\acdatabackup" folders.

Just in case you missed the 18 previous chances on this page to download the program , please click here... Aircraft Count.exe
